10 Easy ways to get more twitter followers

It is a well known fact that Twitter can generate more traffic to your website. More traffic as we know means more conversions, more conversions of subscribers or sales. So it behooves us to understand how we can get more followers in Twitter. Here are a number of tips that will help you get more followers.

1. Bio

Make sure you take the time to compose a Twitter bio that will portray the message that you want others to know about you. What do you want them to know about you that are pertinent to your online business or other wards? Your bio will inspire people to follow you or not. Take the time to make it count.

2. Tweet

Have you made any tweets before following people and hoping they will follow you back? Besides a bio that tells people about you or your business you should have some tweets that will also inspire confidence in you. Your tweets should be about your business. Links to your website or an article you wrote to show who you are.

3. Build rapport

Many people make the mistake to just sell to the people that follow you on Twitter. You want to build a relationship. If you write or find articles that will benefit your followers tweet them. If you find humor or other things that you think your followers could enjoy or benefit from then tweet them. Links to YouTube videos or other helpful resources are good.

4. Captivate

Your tweet should be captivating like the headline of an article or the subject line of an email. Show that you can grab people’s interest. Since you have a limited number of characters you can use you should shorten your links. We will discus programs that will help with your Twitter account in another tip.

5. “Share the Love”

Re-tweet other people’s tweets and some will return the favor, which will expose you to other people who may then decide to follow you. When people do re-tweet your tweets then you should thank them. It only takes a minute to click a button and say thank you.

6. Reply to people’s tweets

Give them a compliment or thank them for sharing. These people may also decide to send you @ messages, which will also make their followers aware of you. Remember that you are part of a community and you can build valuable relationships.

7. Follow the rules

Follow all of Twitter’s rules about following and un-following. Don’t become too aggressive or your account will be suspended. Try to keep to a 1 to 1.5 ratio.

8. Don’t spam!

Don’t be known as a spammer. If you plan on using Twitter to market something, try to keep a ratio of about one marketing message for every 10 or so tweets. If all you do is try to sell people something, they will stop following you. Doing nothing but marketing tweets could get you labeled as a spammer, which could result in being banned. Remember Twitter is about being social first and then if you do any marketing, second.

9. Use software

If you are using Twitter to market then look into software to do your Twitter work for you. There is one free website that can really help you use Twitter with more efficiency, Hootsuite.com. This service will post Tweets to a number of services for you. You will also be able to schedule your tweets so you can take your time to set up a day’s worth or more of tweets.

10. Targeted followers

There are a number of paid software programs that will find targeted followers for you based on keyword or associations. It will manage the following and unfollowing of the people so you won’t have to go through hundreds and thousands of emails clicking on the follow link. You can schedule tweets and much more. Review a number of these programs, automate Twitter and save your time.

Nice list, Tweet Adder is one handy tool if you are using the strategy of following others in order to get follow backs. It’s not a strategy for everyone but it can work and will certainly get you more followers. One of it’s best features is the ability to unfollow only people who you have folllowed using Tweet Adder and haven’t followed you back after a certain amount of time (rather than just blanket unfollow all people who don’t follow you).

Not sure why you need to unfollow people that aren’t following you though. Surely the point is to follow people who seem interesting in the first place, regardless of whether they reciprocate? I know my follower number fluctuates from day to day simply because people unfollow me if I don’t follow them back, but I refuse to take part in “tit for tat” following.

It’s because of Twitters follower limit. It will stop you following others if the ratio gets too high. If you don’t unfollow people there is no way of following more people (thereby allowing you to get more follow-backs). Again not for everyone but if your strategy is to try to get more reach quickly, then it’s an option.

I disagree that your tweets should solely be about your business. Sharing content that’s unrelated to your business and just chatting with people is more important – as in point 3.

You should also include a link to your website within the bio itself, not just in the url box – that way it shows up when people check out who’s following who.
