Viral Marketing is nothing new – It is the concept of helping your message spread to individuals with a high social networking potential to spread it further. But for viral marketing to really be successful, more is needed than just good contacts.
A carefully designed and strategic viral marketing campaign will have a rapid snowball effect, the farther it travels from its original source, the more it will turn into an avalanche of success.
So what ingredients are required for a successful Viral Marketing campaign?
Value
Something of value needs to be in the offer – expecting someone to explore an offering without some personal gain or value to be earned is a naïve approach. Don’t expect targets to pass on a message if there is nothing of value to offer.
Simplicity
A viral campaign must convey a clear message which is easy for the recipient to pass on.
Preparation
Make sure you have enough server space – be prepared to scale from a small number of recipients to a large number in a very short period of time. Last thing you need is a server crashing potentially derailing your campaign.
Connections
Use your own communication networks – email alone won’t be effective – Spread your message as far and as wide as you can. Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Digg etc are good places to start.
