Hi all, I find that building backlinks is the most time consuming, brain numbing part of my SEO - if I were to use Ping to simplify the process, would my site still get the same benefits in terms of SEO and pagerank? Particulary as Ping (and Twitter, etc) shorton the urls - does this remove the SEO benefit of using keywords in urls?

Are you one of these people that believe SEO backlinking is a numbers game?
I haven't tested the intrinsic value of pingbacks vs keyword anchor links. The blogsphere isn't an area that v2Media carries out SEO actions very often. Given that the pingback protocol is xml-rpc, I doubt whether it has much of an impact on SEO. However it is a valid source of increasing traffic via other blogs.
If you find any definitive answers, I'd be interested in knowing...

Ping means that you are notifying the search engines and directories that your site or blog has been recently updated. It makes the search engines like Google and Yahoo get automatically informed with your site's status. So basically pinging your blog is as important as adding content on it.
