Massive Hello, help needed and cannot wait to learn more!

    HI and thanks for reading...

I moved to Aus form the UK where I ran a small, but successfull, balance bike biz (thebalancebikeshop) selling through our website, ebay, gumtree and amazon (best medium).

I bought a sample over and have set up an Oz website (balanacebikeshop) and had limited success so thinking of importing more stock. It seems strange how you can charge alot more than the UK!

Consequently, I have load of questions but to start with..

Marketing - what is the best online shopsto sell your stock ie amazon.co.uk, ebay etc. Where do you sell your stock?
Tax etc - any good resources so i know what to do to register my sole trading business. This will run in parallel with my day job?

Thanks and cannot wait to get involved!

    cheers

    Nick

AU is a million miles from anywhere important and we pay through the nose to get stuff in and out. This big ol island is the size of Europe with a fraction of the population and UK would fit into Victoria, our smallest mainland state - with room to spare! The place is BIG! And it's costs to run are BIG.

ebay.com.au oo.com.au dstore.com.au dealsdirect.com.au are a few popular au retail sites to pimp your wares.

The ato.gov.au is the tax authority. The ATO website has a tonne of info in regards to business registration and tax obligations. As far as business registration is concerned, your Australian business number is registered with the ATO and trading names are registered with the department of fair trading in your state.

Best to talk to an accountant after your familiar with how business are registered and run down here. You'll get the most valuable advice there.

First of all, welcome to Australia and more importantly welcome to SBF!

As Mark mentioned, ATO.gov.au are the best people to speak to. They can be a little difficult to get on the phone sometimes (but have a convenient call back system which is great) but they tend to be very, very helpful!

In terms of promoting your products, as far as I know EBay is rather large over - I don't particular hear of many people buying from other sites as often as they do from Ebay and a lot of people I know (and members of the forum) have great success selling there.
