    Serviceseeking.com.au and the like...

    Hi

I'm new to the forum and a new business owner too We only launched our web design company a few weeks ago. I was interested to hear about people's experiences with online platforms like Serviceseeking.com.au and whether people find it (and other sites like it) useful to get new clients?

Sorry if this question has been asked before - I couldn't find it.

    Annie

    Hi Annie,

I tried ServiceSeeking a while back and wasn't really a fan of it - prices are pushed very, very low. It's also very competitive and there are normally numerous responses from clients. The only jobs that I would consider "worth iit" are typically the larger jobs - but these cost a lot more to bid on and receive a lot of responses!

I've heard there are some similar sites out there that narrow the responses down to 3 participants - I can't for the life of my remember what they are called!

    Hi Jake

Thanks for your reply from a few weeks back. I haven't found it too helpful so far and suspect, like you, it's because the prices others are quoting are really low. Thanks for your advice

So, after another experience with a serviceseeking request today, it has made me wonder - how much LOWER are people charging than me? I wish you could see the other quotes, but of course I get that you can't. Anyway I don't think I'll be spending much more time on serviceseeking in the future. On the flipside however, when I have been the person looking for someone to do some work (tradespeople) I have loved serviceseeking! The web design/IT industry is over-represented on the site too so that doesn't do me any favours!

No worries though, I like to explore my options and I've certainly explored this one.... now onto the next thing

Yeh, we tend to do that. Those of us who work specifically in a form of advertising (for example, myself as a printer) obviously tend to advertise more on the medium we feel comfortable with.

I'm guilty of that, direct mailing and letterbox drops make up about 50% of my marketing spend. I know they are common for printers to do, but I do them because I know I will always get a return.

In saying that, I've started to diversify a little now - working on a website revamp, spending a bit more time on social media, newsletters and the like.

    Hi Jake

I was wondering about your last comment where you said you will always get a return on direct mailing/letterbox drops. Can you give me any pointers on what you think makes your letterbox drops successful? And also how you decide who to send direct mail to?

I'm asking because as yet, we haven't had any response to our letterbox drops....I think the flyer looks good but maybe the information on it isn't catchy enough or perhaps it just hasn't reached the right people yet. I'm not sure but I'm very curious to learn from others who do have success with this medium, if you don't mind me asking?

    Hi Annie,

Hard to say without seeing exactly what you are doing / where you hitting.

Shoot me an email with artwork you've used, the areas you have hit (including the company used for distribution), the quantities and the repetition and I'll give you some feedback =)
