New Service: One Website or Two

    Hi Guys,

I have not posted many threads on this forum however enjoy reading the information provided. I have the following website:

    www.writingwizards.com.au

This site has been maintained, updated etc for about 5 years. I am now looking to take advantage of over 10 years experience in producing material such as resumes, business plans, quality systems and tender documents through the development of templates for sale online. My question is this, should I incorporate this new service into our current site, or, have a completely separate website and domain name (perhaps with the same branding). I can see advantages and disadvantages for both however from my limited knowledge of SEO principles a domain name that matches the exact webpage / title etc would achieve better results.

Does anyone have experience in similar situations? Any evidence of which would work better?

    Regards

    John

    Hi John,

Very good questions, unfortunately I'm not the one to help you!

I have put a call out on Twitter / Facebook, so hopefully and expert will chime in shortly =)

Next time you need printing done for your business, use someone you know & trust! Great prices, great quality and best of all - great service!

My opinion would be if the content has been on there for so long then you wouldn't want to lose it nor the credibility it may have. The same applies to the domain itself. Think of it as a sister company and treat it that way via your main site.

one of my clients is an SEO company.. one of the things I've picked up while onsite with them is, a newer site is harder to rank higher from an SEO point of view. What i'm saying is.. if you add your services to your existing site that's ranking well, it will rank quicker for the new words, than a brand new site.
At least, that's how I understand it..

Thanks for the advice. That is what a lot of people are telling me now.

Another point to consider could be the fact that if you were to create a second site and link to it heavily (particularly from the front page). If you current site holds authority as you say, some of the proverbial "link juice" may flow to the new site as well.

I'm not saying you should go with this strategy, but this may give you a "leg up" on the new site, almost as though you aren't starting from scratch. What does everyone else think?
