I recently bought a sign to stick on my car window that said "future millionaire on board". I am working towards it BUT am not putting my money into anything beyond my means. My money , in the future when I start making a reasonable amount, will get split 4 ways. At least that is the plan.....

I despise the notion of a goal to be a millionaire and I despise people who are motivated solely by money. If someone were to say to me, "I'm working towards being a millionaire", I'll think you're a complete w4nker and hope the conversation doesn't last much longer. But if one were to say, "I'm working towards a luxury yacht" or "I want a prestigious home for my family in a great area", that's a motivation to work hard that I can respect.

A sole motivation in life that is to see big numbers in the bank account, or investment portfolio, to give bragging rights about being a millionaire is pitiful.

One of the nice things is to be able to look back on a working life spanning 52 years. The different jobs, different industries, and the knowledge you pick up through this journey.

Although we think we need heeps of money to be happy and successful, believe it or not you really dont.

To be healthy, to be loved and to be able to pay those ever present bills. Have a holiday every year or so and to sleep soundly every night to me is to be wealthy/rich.

Over those 52 years I made more than enough money to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. I spoilt my staff giving bonuses and healthy pay rates, and I was rewarded by loyalty and unbelievably good productivity. I helped several young people start their own business and have seen them develop these business into profitable operations, without asking for any return, so to me it is not money that is important in your life, but what you do with that money which is more than you currently need.

My advice is to put it into super, because when you get to that magical retirement age, you can start enjoying those things you would have liked to have done when you were still working.
You may not want to go with a super fund, so put the extra money into Term deposits which earn good interest and you can draw on it if something unforseen should happen.

However just start becoming more frugal, you might even get the reputation of being a 'tight a**' but you will be able hold you head high with the knowledge it is for your future, not the present.

Well said. Wealth comes in many forms and shapes, greatest wealth is our good health, the people around us and off course money helps among others. Unfortunately material wealth is only a narrow view that so many of us lay importance in.
