    Hosting Multiple Domains

In the not to distant future I will implementing a network of websites across approx 15 domains.

Now then, I can easily price the cost of individual hosting. But I'm not sure if I wouldn't be better off buying hosting on a private and dedicated server to house all my domains.

Can one you of techno-boffins please explain to me if I'm on the right track, and if not why? Also what are some affordable options for multiple domain hosting?

    Thanks techno Gods

You would probably get away with shared hosting, just because your websites are low-traffic. Look for shared hosting that allows you to have multiple "add-on domains" - that's all you need.

Now I am further confused. By "add-on domains" do mean sub-domains, because I already have that capacity with my existing hosting account.

I'm talking about multiple independant domains.
Eg domainmelb.com, domainmelb.com.au etc, spread across 15 registered parent domains.

No, sub-domains are different. An add on domain is a full domain that is "added on" to your main domain.

    So:
    one.com.au (main domain)
    two.com.au (addon domain)

In cPanel you say where you want to point the addon domain, it's typically a folder. So the new domain (two.com.au) actually would be the same as one.com.au/two

I hope that makes a bit of sense!

Ah Ok, I think I follow now. But for what I've got in mind, I don't think add-on domains will be as useful. Shall do some further investigation.

However if I can get a dedicated server cheap enough would that also be a good option?

Bluehost is pretty bad I found a few compromised servers when some of my clients used it.

You won't need dedicated hosting, all you need is shared hosting with WHM and cPanel.

    Someone like aussiehost.com offers it

The steps will involve logging into your domain registrar and pointing the nameservers at aussiehost.com

Then you log into web host manager which lets you setup an account for each domain

After each domain has an account you can log into cpanel for each domain to manage each one individually. You could easily do this on the 15$ plan. You could also pay a web developer to set each account up for you, would only take an hour for someone experienced.

    Hi Marriane,

I was in a similar position to you - Each website I was hosting was costing around $10 per month for the hosting.

When I got up to about 6 I was hosting - I purchased a "reseller" account - Which meant in the eyes of the hosting providing, I was selling hosting to myself.

This costs around $30 so saved me a bit of money as each new website I added on wasn't any additional cost.

If you have higher traffic websites, you would obviously need to purchase a larger reseller account -But a moderately small one worked for me.

It might be work getting an hour or two's training with someone who knows what they are doing so you can ensure you set things up correctly.
