A reseller account is a great option. I have two reseller accounts with hostgator. I love hostgator - have never had a problem with them and their service is absolutely fantastic

Appreciate the input guys. Right now I have one main hosting account, and a 2nd "cheapie" where my Iframe lives. I just wanted to get some idea of what was available so I can crunch a few numbers. Ultimately I'll discuss all options with my web designer (when I can afford one LOL).
It just helps to have some idea of what is available.

Shared hosting despite their advertisement for unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited this and that ... in actual fact if you were to read their fine prints it have caveat on theses offers, that is if it does not affect their server performance. If it does, you will be shut down. Let's say, depending on the webhost; if you were to have 2000 unique visitors or 10,000 page view per hour more likely than not you will be shut down by your shared hosting provider. Send them an email with these queries to test their "unlimited", telling them you plan for the following
need to upload 200TB of data
expect 1,000,000 page view per day
anticipate 50,000 unique visitors per day
... you will see what I meant in their reply, if they reply.
melstrip, if you are expecting tons of traffic for your 15 sites, it is best to go for dedicated server or perhaps Amazon S3. If you intent to host adult contents, you will need to confirm with them as not every hosts will allow adult contents.
There are two simple options (the other options are not simple).
1 set up a reseller account. This is easy because you get a control panel where you just keep creating web hosting packages until you run out of space. With the company I work for you can get a starter reseller package that only costs $39 per month and that gets you 40GB of space and 600GB of bandwidth. Check out www.ingenyes.com.au. Doing it that way means you don't have to muck around with administering a server.
2 The second option might not be that suitable for what you want (you haven't mentioned how you will be implementing these websites?) You can buy a "single" hosting package from us that comes with the ability to set up ten websites. So it's even simpler to look after. This is designed for people in exactly your situation. But it's aimed at people who want to deploy ready made websites and comes with a Content Management System (it uses templates and wysiwig editing software to build and edit websites). So you can't FTP into it. It only costs $349. This is what my company offers but there are other, similar solutions out there.
I've been hosting with dreamhost.com which allows unlimited domains
One thing to note is that same content on more than one domain is generally not a good idea. different content yes, otherwise, they should all 301 redirect to one common domain
Hey Melbstrip,
I have around 20 sites at the moment, as some of the others do, I also use a reseller account through Mediatemple - I find that it is very reliable and quite inexpensive ($200 a year for up to 100 sites) It has one-click installs for wordpress or joomla if thats what your into, if not, no problems. I would be happy to talk you through setting up an account if you like. My skype is tp_swoop and i'm available most evenings.
MT is ok if you can handle their hosting control panel. I find it very restrictive as a developer. In the case of servers running Plesk, the MT control panel is a liability because plesk local dns records are ignored in favour of the dns records in the MT control panel.
Gimme cPanel/WHM any day.
