I believe Google will always be unbeatable… even though Facebook comes closer in competition with Google, we must remember that Facebook is defined as a social network & Google is apparently a search engine. Therefore, both have altogether a different purpose.

Hello - I have both adwords and facebook campaign. I think they are totally different. Not sure about the traffic as secondary benefit thing! Nearly all my sales comef from adwords. Enough sales come from facebook to cover the cost of the campaign (and i have the budget *very* low).
Facebook users typically dont want to leave facebook. Your CPC will be lower if you direct poeple to your fb page, not your external website. To me it's a good way to build a fan base and get people talking.. totally different to adwords. I can use the fan page as a way for customers on the webpage to trust my business and see what we are about. Most people who click my fb ad like my page, but few of them go and look at the website. It's just not a great way to generate actual *sales* (IMO) but it does build up a list of people who will receive the messages you send about your business when you update on your page. The clickthrough rate is also really low, but that's what you'd expect as people aren't on fb to click ads.and the CPC is cheap.
My adwords campaign costs me a lot... more than I'm comfortable with. It's incredibly complex to get working the best way for you. I just turned it over to a professional group, but they've done worse than me so I've taken it back (as of this morning). Time to get serious about it (unfortunately).
My site doesnt show up in organic search results so i rely on adwords. (I hope that's just because the site is new - it comes up for my business name but not keywords).
Adwords is so complicated its like doing tertiary study trying to get a handle on it. It's super easy to start a basic campaign and get clicks happening, but to squeeze the most out of your budget....... agony.
I know Bing has its adwords version too which I might have a stab at today. Horror.
ALl the above is the result of my own research & experience, so I won't be offended at any disagreements! In fact, I welcome it - if anyone knows better, please say so!
