Hi Tahera. The replies to this post seemed to have missed out on the obvious one - get a website. There are very cheap pre-built website packages out there. They are called CMS websites (Content Management Systems) and they use templates and online editing software. That way you can do it yourself for under a $100. Use traditional advertising, social media and any other way you can think of to get traffic happening to your website. Have interesting content. Have a blog to let people know who you are and what you provide and have a contact form so they can contact you. The more you engage people coming to the website the better. They can size you up and you can size them up.

You might want to consider a modest adwords campaign. Don't spend a fortune. Start modestly until you learn how it works (it is pretty easy). Simply having a website, your own email address and an adwords campaign will automatically give you a much bigger standing in potential clients eyes. (The great thing about websites is they can easily make you look much bigger that you really are!)

Here is an introduction to Google Adwords.

    Good Luck!

    Mastering the web!

HI Tahera. Nice to meet you too!

I'd love to hear feedback about your experiences.

    If I was learning about this Google, Adwords, SEO, etc, it would all be "hands on" practical and the way I would start off is;

    1. Buy a CMS website
    2. Install Google Analytics (free)
    3. Sign up on Facebook and Twitter (free)
    4. See how much buzz and traffic I can create with less than a $100.

I wouldn't even try and sell anything on my website. Just have it about some topic I know about (fishing, favourite book, whatever). It would be purely to learn the ropes. No amount of reading about it is worth one week of actually doing it.

The company I work for sell a CMS website for $40. That includes the domain name, the hosting, emails and the software to build a website. Check it out at www.ingenyes.com.au.

LinkedIn is a great place to start networking. There are a lot of professionals and decision makers on there. Business owners, attorneys, politicians. Google the name Lewis Howes. He is great at showing people how to network on Linkedin. I've learned a lot from him.

Yeah, I would say your local Business Enterprise Centre too ! They have Pub nights where you can go socialise with business owners.

A major source of prospective clients is accountants. They quite often have clients who are in need of a good bookkeeper. Do you have a good rapport with any accountants you have worked with in previous employment? If so, contact them and tell them that you are starting your own bookkeeping business. Let them know that you are looking for clients and that you are available to do bookkeeping work for them.

Well, its no quick strategy on it's own... but SEO would be a good one.

And you could combine that with Pay Per Click Ads.

But you really have to have a 'kick ass' website to convert people to buy from you.

A good website & directory submissions will be a good help. Consider networking too.
