Info for employers - Paid Parental Leave

Hi all, my name's Marian and I work at Centrelink in the Digital Media section. We are hosting an online webcast to inform employers about the new Parental Leave Pay scheme being introduced in July. If you are interested in participating, the info is below.

Are you an employer and want to learn more about the Paid Parental Leave scheme?

The Paid Parental Leave scheme provides a government funded entitlement for working parents. Eligible parents will have access to Parental Leave Pay if they become a primary carer through birth or adoption. From 1 July 2011, employers will be responsible for providing Parental Leave Pay to eligible employees who have, or adopt a child, have worked for the business for 12 months or more and are expecting to receive more than eight weeks Parental Leave Pay.

If you want more information you can have your questions answered during our live and interactive Paid Parental Leave scheme webcast on Friday 13 May at 11.00 am (AEST).

You'll need to register to participate on the day, which you can do here.

Questions can be submitted online during the webcast or sent earlier to webchat@centrelink.gov.au Questions in video format must be less than 5MB and in mov, wmv or mp4 file format. Registrations close Thursday 12 May.

The forum is intended to address general queries. If you have more specific questions you can call the Centrelink Business Hotline on 13 1158.

A webcast for parents will be held on Friday 6 May at 11.00 am (AEST) if you'd like to tell your employees.

For more info about the Paid Parental Leave scheme visit www.centrelink.gov.au or call
