    Business Planner

I have a business idea and a rough Idea of how I want to execute it (I dont want to use the term Business plan as I have not written anything down). I do not have any experience in running my own business. So what I am interested in doing is finding a business planner or coach who is able to help me start from scratch eg helping me with finding a shop, going through the permits and licences, how to best contact my suppliers etc as well as making a business plan so I can get off thr ground.

Is there anybody who offers this type of service.

I am located in Melbourne. My business idea is a specialty liquor retailer.

Hi Ilk, there's a few members that are business coaches and mentors. They'll be sure to chime in on Monday.

In the meantime, why don't you post a bit about yourself and the business you want to get into at the New-Members forum

Hey and welcome to the forums

Plug owed to a friend & client, Serena - she offers business coaching for startups, you might find her new entrepreneur program useful?

You might find a more relevant coach to your industry though for help with permits/licenses etc though.

    Good luck!

    Hi there,

We've got some great businesses coaches here so I have no doubt they will chime in shortly - but have you considered widening your view to consider having a coach remotely? I believe coaching (among a lot of other things) isn't impeded at all by using the internet.

Hello lkc, before spending money for advice on the really basic stuff have a look at Free Business Start Up Pack and Essentials for Business for VIC. That should take care of the legal aspects. As for finding a shop, that is a key decsion as with retail location is critical and I'd recommend having a chat to Debra Templar of The Templar Group. You could also look at some of her presentations on Slideshare

Hope this helps and if you want to learn about running a business successfully check out Biz Coach Online which offers very affordable options to learn the critical aspects of running a business.

Happy to answer any specific queries you might have as well.

    G'day lkc.
    welcome to the forums!
I have a colleague in Melbourne that runs planning days. They're ideal if you already have an idea on want to put it on paper in an Action Plan. By no means is it a Business Plan, but rather a weekly plan of attack to keep you on track. Let me know if you would like his details.

I forgot I hadn't replied to this thread. I have been busy with my current work as well as looking at all the links. Thanks for all the help.

From experience do most people find it easier to start as online shops and then open a bricks and mortar shop or is it best to start with the shop and then have an online component. I have been thinking that for cost reasons operating out of a warehouse and doing all business online. my only problem would be delivery as I am wanting to specialise in beer which if somebody was to order a slab it could be quite costly to ship around the country.

Most people have started with Bircks and Mortar then opened online. I doubt they planned it that way, bricks and mortar was here before online so most have just gone online as it came available. Both have Pros and Cons, and both options would need careful planning. If you're new to business and have another income, the beauty of an online store is you can hold a day job to pay the bills whilst you build your online business outside of your normal working hours, then when you have enough revenue to support you, you could quit your day job and continue to build your business.
If you're dealing in imported specialty beer, I think online only would work, but if you were looking at selling mainstream beer, then I doubt that would capture much of the store market by selling it online, it is just too easy to get it from a shop, and pay no shipping.
Make sure you do your research and understand your market, and I would suggest just giving online a go and test the concept before committing to a lease and wages to run an offline business.

A key position for accelerated advancement is the business planner. These attempts are usually successful and help to improve morale if superior people are brought in, identified early in their careers, and given really responsible assignments with commensurate authority. Often an organization shows unmistakable signs of a need to reorganize and hence improve its internal climate and efficiency.
