    Hi Patrick,

I can help you out on the second there from a users perspective.

I used to use MYOB about 12 months or so ago - While the program wasn't majorly difficult to learn it was difficult to master.

It wasn't very logical in it's design and I frequently found myself searching online for answers or calling up for help (which is charged).

At the suggestion of one of our forum members (Darren from Dardee) I moved to another service called "Xero".

This I have found to have brilliant, cut my book keeping time almost in half.

The main benefits of this program for me are:

    - Stored in the cloud (but secured with the same security banks use).
    - Easy to learn and master, free help from the software makers if need be.
    - Able to login anywhere (I sometimes like do a bit of work from home, or on the weekends).

I believe it's only limitations are with Stock control. I'm sure Darren will chime in shortly and give you a bit more information =)

Ahh, I understand! Fun times ahead for you!

I don't mean to say the program is completely horrible, it's not - it just has a steep learning curve.

My only advice would be to take notes so you don't forget how to do things!

    2. MYOB SUCKS - period. It's convoluted and unintuitive. Be warned, if you don't use it, you will drastically limit the number of accountants and bookkeepers that can service you if you don't use it.

I originally started my business on quickbooks but could not find a local accountant that would touch it. An accountant advised, "Use MYOB if you want your accounts to have any portability".

P.S: The book "MYOB for Dummies" takes a lot of the pain out of using this sh!t software.

P.P.S: The ajax edit post feature is busted.

    I'm here !!!

    Burgo, 3 questions for you:
    - what are you using MYOB for?
    - what does it need to do?
    - what information do you want out of it?

v2Media, if you are still using the accountant that said that, then it is time to find another one. That might have stood 5 years ago but not anymore.

Darren have you read my mind again I will be contacting you a bit later on to see what can be done.
I have been in touch with the CFO of the organisation I am getting involved with and she has suggested MYOB isnt necessary as a spredsheet could be adequate. Basically invoices and financials, members register etc., so nothing too expensive or elaborate.
I will talk to you about Xero but even that may be to sofisticated a system, so as soon as i get more information Im just making an enquiry to get myself familiar with whats available.
I am also thinking of putting the associations financial requirements on the same system making it easier for me to control them.

Just as a rough idea what would Xero cost as against MYOB ?
