Do you use an RSS reader?

I've always been a long time fan of RSS readers, they replaced a lot of book marks I had & I still regularly use them.

It was discussed recently at a business get together I attended about the fact a lot of people have slowed down using them / stopped all together with the rise of Twitter and other social media.

Was just curious if this was the case within the community here too?

    Good timing

I have a RSS icon on my page, but it's got no link as I don't really understand how it all works... care to give a crash course Jake?

THe thing is, according to google analytics (just looked at it today and discovered this!) it's one of the most clicked spots on my page!

(if analytics are to be trusted)

I absolutely love RSS readers - basically what they do is they strip a page down to it's most basic elements (Most commonly a header and the text) and remove all formatting. This is then "read" by your RSS reader and displayed to you (kind of like a newspaper would be) without the other parts of the site.

It means you can read updates from as many sites as you like without physically having to visit them all.

Whats your website? I'll see if I can find your RSS reader for you =)

I just had a quick google after reading your thread but I'm in the middle of (horror) attempting to set up a cart so put it in the 'later' basket.

You can see there is a latest news thingo. I had no idea people were actually clicking on the RSS icon until today!

I love RSS readers as well, I use Google Reader and the Reeder app on my iPad and iPhone which brings in all of the Google reader feeds.

As a website owner I use feedburner which gives you some basic stats on the subscribers to your feed etc which is useful.
