    group certificate Q's

    Hi all

I have 2 questions. I am a small business owner and put an employee on part time last financial year. I made the mistake of paying him all his weekly income instead of keeping some for the tax man on his behalf. Is this something i just fix with my accountant when i do my tax in the coming months, pay for it upfront for my employee and work something out for him to pay me back what is owed or?

And where can i download a group certificate form that i can use to give to him for his own personal tax. cant see a form to use anywhere.

    Thanks in advance everyone.
    Regards
    Rob

Wellllp...this is an interesting one. Personally, I've never had a client come across this problem so you're a pioneer...of sorts.

From the employee's perspective, it's still s6-5 assessable income and thanks to our self assessment system it's their responsibility to report the income as received and the amount of tax paid on it.
Very similar to the payment of director fees at year end where there aren't any tax instalments during the year.

From your perspective, if you have already lodged the emdup (sp?) file with the ATO, it's possible to make a written amendment through your accountant.
Speaking purely from logic, I daresay you won't have to pay PAYG Withholding because you didn't withhold anything. But I'll confirm with the good people at the ATO next time I'm on the phone.

As for the group cert, any accounting software worth it's salt has that built in. MSExcel it if all else fails.
